Two National Teams

One summer. Two big tournaments.

Mexico is faced with fielding a national team for this summer's Gold Cup and Copa America.  While it would be nice to bring Mexico's best possible eleven to each tournament, it is unreasonable and not particularly nice for those selected players. There isn't a long offseason for soccer players; filling it with two separate international tournaments is a bit much.

The Five Under-the-Radar Facets of Mexico's World Cup

Getting off to a strong start in this World Cup was always a possibility for El Tri - just not one that seemed very likely. I dare not rehash the tales of woe that constituted the qualifying campaign or the statistics on the numbers of managers that were in place. I will just say that Mexico have turned it on when it was most needed.

The Famously Incomprehensive Brazil Preview

A breakdown of just a few things you'll need to know ahead of Mexico's match with Brazil.

Friendly Choices

June is coming. A trip to Brazil and the pressure of the world's biggest tournament will also come in quick succession for the Mexican National Team. Like an impending storm, the World Cup won't wait for El Tri to be ready.

Mexico Reimagined

The Mexican national team is in trouble. They have chosen a path that is fraught with peril. This is not a road less traveled type of situation here. There will be no fringe benefits; this won't make them tougher. El Tri are headed down the path of the bad ending in a Choose Your Own Adventure book. It's going to get ugly, and unlike the reading of those literary relics, there are no re-dos. El Tri have made their bed ...

Mexicans Abroad: A look at their overall minutes

I wish I had practical and useful ideas. While others think of rational ways that would better their lives, I sit in front of my laptop and stare blankly at soccer statistics and scores. Recently, during one of my usual catatonic-like states of mind when looking at my screen, I realized that I haven't seen much in regards to overall minutes for our Mexicans abroad in Europe. Sure, I've seen minutes after games but I'm a child of the internet generation and wish to see lists and organized numbers. Perhaps even a multi-colored graph with overall minutes.

The Top 10 Ways for FMF to Destroy the Mexican National Team

The Federacion Mexicana de Futbol needs no help looking foolish. The collective decision-making of the federation along with the questionable moves by their employed managers have rivaled only the actual play of the footballers on the field for staggering heights of mediocrity and stupidity. Things haven't been going well.

The Questions and the Answer

The year that was filled with so much hope and promise for the Mexican National Team hasn't quite panned out that way. The positive momentum of the youth ranks, Olympics, and the earlier qualifying rounds has been replaced with angst and frustration. Mexico has so thoroughly underperformed this year.

Failure by Design: The Chepo Qualifying Campaign

When problems arise with the results of a team, when expectations aren't met, theories pour in from all corners. Multiple targets for blame will be found, deserved or not. Everyone will have a shot at pinpointing the problems. Someone will eventually get it right, or more than likely, everyone will have piece of the problem identified. It's a normally a mixture of factors that leads to a team falling short of their potential. So, we guess and get some things right. But it's always a little mysterious. That's sport. We don't always know the answers.

Failure to Launch

Last night, the Mexican National Team began their play in the final qualifying round (The Hex) for next year's World Cup. They hosted Jamaica at the Estadio Azteca in front of a late arriving crowd. The crowd was not the only group of Mexicans who arrived late to the match. The players came out on to the field and put on a pathetic performance. Jamaica was able to grind out a scoreless draw with nearly as many quality scoring chances as the home team.
